St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea hosted its 32nd Annual Auction Denim and Diamonds 2017 on May 13 at Zingerman’s Cornman Farms in Dexter.

More than 350 people attended the sold-out event, which raised $712,000 to benefit the transformation of the hospital’s inpatient Behavioral Health Services unit, far surpassing its goal of $500,000.

“Each year, our Annual Auction showcases the enormous generosity of our supporters,” said Nancy Graebner, president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea. “Our hospital and patients are blessed to have the love and support of community donors, sponsors, businesses, medical staff members and individuals to treat behavioral illnesses that affect those in our community.”

The transformation of the Behavioral Health Services unit involves renovations that include a modern design and more efficient use of space, while also adding to the comfort and care of patients. Patients will have improved access to music therapy, fitness equipment and group classes all which help to heal mind, body and spirit.

The renovated unit is the next step in capital improvements being made throughout the St. Joe’s Chelsea campus, which includes the recent construction of a new atrium, inpatient facilities and a Cancer Center.

“We are thrilled and grateful for the tremendous response to our event from the community,” said Jeff Hall, Denim and Diamonds event co-chair. “We are incredibly fortunate to live in such a wonderful community, with a local hospital that provides such important services right here in our backyard. Patients will truly benefit from the enhancements to care that will result from the funds raised through this event.”
