State’s criminal justice system topic of Feb. 7 talk at the Michigan Friends Center

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Carolyn Holland for the information in this story.)

There will be a special program about Michigan’s criminal justice system at the Michigan Friends Center on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

Natalie Holbrook, director of the American Friends Service Committee Criminal Justice Program, will discuss Michigan’s criminal justice and corrections system.

According to information about the event, Michigan incarcerates roughly seven times the number of people per capita as does Ontario, Canada right across the Detroit River.

In addition, Michigan spends more money on incarceration than it does on higher education.

Who are these people in prison, and is holding them behind bars making us safer – those are the types of questions that Holbrook will discuss.

The Friends Center is located at 7748 Clark Lake Road.
