A crowd of about 40 people attended the Sylvan Township Board meeting on Tuesday, July 1.

Water Services Manager Mike Jurosek said that the first new full-page water bills went out last week. These have replaced the old postcard format residents are used to. Jurosek stated that he would appreciate feedback on the new format, as he would like billing to be as comprehensive yet as simple as possible. Jurosek can be emailed at mjurosek@sylvan-township.org , or called at 475-8890 during township office hours.

Trustee Kurt Kosek announced that the Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) will begin negotiations with Michigan Association of Fire Fighters (MAFF) on July 10, and that he anticipates a smooth process as the fire authority unionizes.

In new business, the board unanimously approved the replacement of a MISS DIG locating unit at a cost not to exceed $3,500.

The water tower interior cleaning and inspection was also unanimously approved at a cost not to exceed $10,000. Dixie Engineering and Infrastructure Alternatives will drain, clean, inspect, sanitize, and refill the tank.

This work will be scheduled for some time in September or October, according to Jurosek, when water use is down after the hot summer months. The water tower will be out of commission for approximately one week while the work is being done.
