Third time was a charm for 15-year-old Taylor Luckhardt who was named sweepstakes winner at the Chelsea Community Fair.
In her seventh year showing at the Chelsea fair, Luckhardt was the senior poultry showmanship winner, which earned her a spot in the elite group of nine senior showman for this showcase competition.
Also earning a spot in the final competition at the fair were Amanda Breuninger and her steer, who finished second in the sweepstakes competition, Keaton Aldrich with her pig, Emma Young with her rabbit, Jordan Hirst with her English horse, Taylor Schrock with her Western horse, McKenna Lynch and her lamb, Mariaha Venegas and her goat, and Amy Gilbert with her Holstein.
Each participant began showing their own species of animal and had 3 minutes to answer several questions asked by the judges and demonstrate their ability to show the animal. By the end of the competition, each showman had worked with the additional eight animals.
The senior showman who ended the night with the highest score was named the sweepstakes champion.
Luckhardt finished with 153 points. She began the night showing her bantam Wyndotte chicken and said the western horse was the hardest to show. The steer, she said, was the easiest.
This is the second year in a row that the sweepstakes winner came from the chicken/rabbit tent.
Great job proud of our Dexter girl.
