On Thursday, Aug. 21, at about 8:30 p.m., two local youth, ages 8 and 16, were transported by ambulance to U-M Mott Children’s Hospital following a Ferris Wheel accident at Chelsea Community Fair.

Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth said, “two juveniles were riding the Ferris Wheel amusement ride when they fell from their Ferris wheel cab.”

He said that the investigation was ongoing and he did not know how far the children had fallen.

Chelsea Area Fire Authority, Huron Valley Ambulance, Chelsea Police and two area physicians were on the scene tending to the children, he said.

“The incident continues to be investigated,” Toth said Friday morning, adding that the ride will remain closed until state inspectors can inspect it. He said that state inspectors thoroughly check out the rides before the fair opens.

Rick Boham, fair board president, said that state inspectors were at the fairgrounds Friday morning inspecting the ride and talking to ride operators.
