Veterans, First Responders Honored

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Chuck Reed for the information and photos in this story.)

Area veterans, police, firefighters and EMS recently attended the 27th Proud To Be concert put on by Mrs. VanHouten’s first grade class at Dexter’s Cornerstone Elementary School.

This program was started 27 years ago by Sis Kanten and has honored the men and women in our communities that serve us and our country. These young kids work hard to perfect the songs and poems they bring to us. They recognize each branch of service with its own hymn, and they present carnations to the attendees.

As a veteran, and all of my comrades agree, this is the best recognition we can receive.

We are “Proud To Be” in the presence of these young kids who value Americas Patriots. If you’re a veteran, police, firefighter, EMS, first responder, and have never attended one of these concerts, please attend next year.

“I guarantee you will leave with a smile on your face,” said Chuck Reed. “I would also encourage the public to attend.”
