The Washtenaw County Road Commission on Thursday, April 17, suspended the seasonal weight restrictions on roads throughout the county.

These weight restrictions went into effect on March 1 and remained there for 54 days.

Typically, each spring in accordance with state law, the Road Commission reduces the weight and speed limits for trucks as temperatures begin to rise and the ground begins to thaw. As the road subsurface thaws, the roads’ ability to carry weight is reduced, meaning that weight that might not affect a road under normal conditions, might now damage it, according to the press release.

These restrictions are put in place to help to extend and preserve the service life of the roads.

For further information, the Truck Operator’s Map is available at the Road Commission’s website, which depicts road classifications.
