In an effort to save money (as well as trees) distributing a newsletter, the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) is asking area residents to go to the website, wwrarecycles.org, and sign up to receive the electronic newsletter.

The sign-up form is in the sidebar on the right of the site.

WWRA has been partnered with American Textile Recycling Services (ATRS) since 2011. Today, ATRS recycling bins are located at nine of the 12 WWRA drop-off locations, including the primary sorting facility in Chelsea. These nine locations generated approximately 53,000 pounds of unwanted clothing, shoes and other recyclable textiles in the first half of 2014 alone. That’s over 26 tons of textile waste diverted from local landfills in this area alone.

In the last two weeks, six box springs and mattresses have been illegally dumped at recycling bin sites. The WWRA reminds residents, if anyone witnesses an illegal dumping, please take a photo, and/or get a license number of the offender, as there is a $1,000 fine, as well as a $500 reward. Please contact WWRA at 475-6160 or send the photo to [email protected].
