WWRA update: 2013 recycling totals and icy drop-off site

The Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) board released the final sales numbers for 2013 this week, and said WWRA earned $562,000 for recyclable materials sold.

This is $110,000 less than what was earned in 2012, despite selling more material. The reason? Prices paid in 2013 for recyclable materials never returned to what they had been in previous years.

As WWRA Board Chairman Frank Hammer said, “The volume was up, now we just need prices to go up.”

Also discussed was the issue with the Old Manchester Road drop-off site. After the wet snow and rain during last week’s brief thaw, the lot at the site was covered with ice, and temporarily closed. Cones were put across the driveway entrance to keep people out, but the cones were moved. Then a truck was parked at the entrance to block it, but people trying to go around the truck got stuck in the ditch. The site has since been reopened.

It was decided that 4×4 timbers would be put in the ground in the ditches, with a chain that could be stretched across the entrance when the site is closed.

There will also be a sign erected when the site is closed.

  1. For heavens sake people, just use the site next to Stivers. You’re already in your car.

  2. Thanks for mentioning that, Kathleen. I didn’t even know there was a drop off site at Stivers.
