10 file applications for open Chelsea City Council seat

Ten residents have filed applications to fill the vacant Chelsea City Council seat that opened up when Rick Catherman moved out of town.

They are Erin Brayton, Jennifer Kwas, Marcia White, Veralynn Klink, Gregory Janz, Michael Happy, Mackenzie Pfeiffer, Christine Peiter, Fran Brennan and Brent Johnson.

The applicants will be interviewed by the six current City Council members at a special meeting on Aug. 24, and the newest City Council member will be appointed at the beginning of the regular City Council meeting on Sept. 8 then immediately join the proceedings.

This person’s appointed term will end in November 2021.

  1. One assumes the Council will vote for the new member at the Aug 24 special meeting. True?

Also, will the Aug 24 meeting be hosted on Zoom? I don’t have a dog in this fight, but there may be a concern about deliberations and voting regarding Council membership not in a public forum. Zoom is a limited tool for important decisions like this.

  2. Hi Rod,
The article states “the newest City Council member will be appointed at the beginning of the regular City Council meeting on Sept. 8 then immediately join the proceedings”. So I think the interviews only are on Aug. 24th. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard somewhere they were televised but that may be code for a Zoom meeting nowadays.
