JJ Duncan got his summer off with an unusual feat.

The 15 year old from Dexter Township shot his first hole-in-one on June 9 at Inverness Country Club.

He says, “I didn’t know how to react,” after watching it go into the hole.

Duncan was playing with Zach McKinley, a teammate on the Chelsea Golf Team when he hit the shot with a 6 iron.

In fact, he says, “I hit it a bit thin, but it rolled in. I didn’t hit the ball all that well.”

The sophomore at Chelsea High School holed the shot on No. 7, a 171-yard par 3, and shot 38 for 9 holes on the day.

The varsity golfer just completed his freshman year at Chelsea High School and says his family are members at Inverness.

When he got back home after the match play round, he says, “I told my mom, ‘Zach lost with a birdie on a par 3.'”

It didn’t take very long for her to figure out he’d shot a hole in one.

Actuaries have calculated the chance of an average golfer making a hole in one at approximately 12,500 to 1, and the odds of a tour professional at 2,500 to 1, according to a story on ask.com.

Duncan says his dad got him interested in golf “a long time ago,” and he calls the game fun, though admits it can be frustrating at times, adding that the best part of his game right now is his “chipping.”

Duncan says he just went out to play that Sunday with no premonition that something special was going to happen. And even after his feat, Duncan says he just finished out the round.

But with his ace, he joins one of the most exclusive clubs in golf. At 15 years old.
