The Chelsea Community Fair Kitchen is still in need of volunteers – especially for the 9:30-10 a.m. shifts getting lunch dishes ready, tasks such as cooking macaroni & cheese, prepping salad items and salads, and plating cakes and cobblers.
Dinner is served beginning at 4 p.m. and help is needed for serving, cooking grill cheese and making French fries, especially on Friday, Aug. 23.
The fair takes place Tuesday, Aug. 20 through Saturday, Aug. 24, and the kitchen runs from 5:00 am through 8:30 pm each day of the fair, and there are multiple tasks you can volunteer for, including ones that don’t involve standing.
Jobs include cutting up salad items, stirring food and batter, panning up the daily specials, scooping, serving, restocking, straightening the dining room, delivering, picking up trays, taking orders, grilling food, washing dishes, as well as end-of-day clean-up and next day set-up.
To lend a hand and volunteer, please contact Fair Kitchen Coordinator Shelley Wheaton at 720-317-9295 or email her at shelley.wheaton@yahoo.com.
Please reach out to help and keep this great element of fair running smoothly.
“My kitchen volunteers have changed through the years, but never the friendships forged, or the kindness shared participating in this tradition,” Wheaton said, before her 29th year of operation.
“It has always been interesting to see who the new faces will be and to say hello to the friends of last year,” she said.
The Chelsea Fair Kitchen journey began when her mom, Ginny Wheaton, and former Fair Board President Ken McCalla were talking about how nice it would be to have a place that you could go at the fair to have a “regular meal.”
Of course, people will eat an elephant ear, and a knackwurst but if you’re at fair every day, it’s nice to have something more.
Please help Wheaton continue to provide meals for fairgoers by volunteering at the 86th Annual Chelsea Community Fair.
