With 648 youth and adult participants, and dozens of sponsors, the 24th annual Heart and Sole run/walk/bike raised $14,000 for the Chelsea Grace Clinic this year.

Chelsea Community Hospital has held the annual event since 1989, and for the last four years, the hospital has donated the proceeds to the Chelsea Grace Clinic, which provides free health care for uninsured patients.

“As a community Hospital, we feel it is important to support local organizations that improve the health and well-being of those we serve,” says Nancy Graebner, president and CEO of CCH in a press release.

“We are pleased that so many community members got to enjoy this fun event, get moving, and support the Chelsea Grace Clinic,” she says.

More than 50 volunteers helped at the Heart and Sole race this year, which took place on Saturday, May 4 at Chelsea High School.

“It is wonderful to work in a community where people help each other, especially those in need,” said Diane Howlin, MD, an internal medicine physician who has led the Chelsea Grace Clinic since it opened in 2001.

The Heart and Sole Race will celebrate its 25th year in 2014.

Race Director Sheri Montoye is inviting anyone who is interested to join the planning committee to celebrate this milestone.
