Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary marked the end of April as Volunteer Month with their annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner, and 36 Auxiliary members were honored with awards marking milestones in their volunteer careers.

Special honor was extended to the following members who have volunteered over 10,000 hours of their time: Alma Bershas, Mary Alice Hafer, Mary Kalmbach, Margaret Kuhl and Helen Steele.

In remarks of appreciation of service by the auxiliary, Nancy Graebner, president and CEO of Chelsea Community Hospital, noted that over 27,000 hours were donated in 2013, volunteers are working in 20 hospital departments and there are almost 200 members from 15 surrounding communities.

In addition, since 2000, the Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary has donated over $300,000 for hospital projects and given 70 scholarships worth $70,000.

In 2013, drivers of the free shuttle logged over 12,000 miles and had over 13,000 passengers. The pledge of $100,000 to the Cancer Center is in the second year of a 5-year goal and is on target to be achieved.

Director of Volunteer Service Russ Billau reports that he has had over 50 new requests for service.
