8 School Board Candidates File for November Election

By Crystal Hayduk

(Publisher’s note: The candidates listed are based on unofficial information from the Washtenaw County Website as of 6 p.m. on filing day, July 26. )

There will be four new faces on the Chelsea School District Board of Education in January.

Four of the seven terms expire in 2022, and none of the incumbents are seeking re-election. Trustees retiring from their service to the district include Laura Bush (elected 2012), Shawn Quilter (elected 2016), Kristin van Reesema (elected 2016), and Wayne Welton (appointed Jan. 31, 2022 to replace Keri Poulter following her resignation in early January).

Eight individuals have filed with the Washtenaw County Clerk’s office to have their names appear on the Nov. 8 ballot in the non-partisan election for board of education members.

At the end of business on July 26, six candidates seeking six-year terms appeared on the unofficial list of candidates on the elections page of the Washtenaw County website: Thomas Golding, Ross Greenstein, Julianne Mallie, Kate Henson, Glenn Fox, and Michelle Craig.

Two candidates are vying to complete the partial term, which expires on 12/31/24, currently held by Welton: John Piatt and Scott Moore. (According to board policy 0142.5, a person appointed to fill a vacant board position will hold the seat until the next regular school board election.)

Greenstein filed his intention to run with a nominating petition. The other seven candidates filed by paying a nonrefundable fee of $100.

The deadline to withdraw from the ballot is 4 p.m. on July 29.

Chelsea Update will publish more information about each candidate at a later date.
