Chelsea Kiwanis Year-End Review, Part 3

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Kiwanis Club likes to keep the community informed on how it raises and spends the funds raised in Chelsea.

In part one, we listed the sources of the $60,000 we raised last year.

In part two, we covered spending from the two committees that are directed to the youngest children in Chelsea, elementary school age and younger.

In part three, we cover spending from the committee directed to older children in the community.

We support members of our Kiwanis family, Chelsea High School Key Club,  and St. Louis Center’s Aktion Club, as they select and complete projects that serve the community. We also celebrate the service and fellowship their clubs provide with a Service Leadership Dinner for their members.

We sponsor two boys each year to the American Legion’s Boys State, and two girls to the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State. They each spend a week during the summer break learning first-hand about our Michigan government.

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts receive our support each year to enhance the character-building activities going on in their troops and packs.

SRSLY is an organization we support, and Kiwanis is represented on their adult board.

Additionally, we donate an animal from Chelsea Community Fair’s Livestock Auction to St. Louis Center.

We sponsor a high school student to the State Police Kiwanis Career Academy. This rigorous program is conducted by the Michigan State Police for those interested in law enforcement.

We work with and support both the Chelsea Athletic Boosters and Band Boosters in their efforts for students.

We provide funds to help defray costs for the Gettysburg trip that Chelsea High School teacher Mr. Matt Pedlow conducts each year.

We provided funds for Chelsea High School Principal Mike Kapolka to use at his discretion for students with a need.

We also satisfied special requests, which included support for an Eagle Scout project.

Chelsea Kiwanis will resume its normal Monday evening meetings on Jan. 7.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to enjoy our speakers and learn about Kiwanis.
