A possible change of City Council meeting nights among items on Tuesday night’s agenda

The Chelsea City Council will discuss the possibility of changing its meeting nights from the second and fourth Tuesdays at 7 p.m. to the first and third Mondays during its Tuesday, July 23 meeting.

The Chelsea Board of Education generally holds its meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, so if a majority of the council approves of the change, there would not be a conflict.

In addition, with a City Council election taking place on Nov. 5,  staff thought if approved by the council, the change would best take place starting Nov. 4.

Also on the agenda is an expected discussion of repairs and renovations for the city offices, which are inside the Chelsea State Bank building. Included in the list of budgeted items are new carpeting for the upstairs area and the removal of the wall that separates the city manager’s office from the rest of the city staff to make one large area. Also included in the list is the purchase of new office furniture and a security system for both the upper and lower level entryways.

If approved by the City Council, staff would prepare a request for proposals to be posted in August with the hope that some of the proposed work could begin in September. The work is expected to take about 4-6 weeks to complete, according to staff comments, and it will mean staff will be temporarily displaced from their current work areas.

Prior to the regular meeting, there will be a work session at 6 p.m. where the City Council will discuss the Chelsea Area Fire Authority bylaws, articles of incorporation and the charter for the policies, procedures and personnel committee.

Among the items on the consent agenda are a series of temporary road closures for the Chelsea Community Fair parade on Aug. 24.
