Some people might think that Aberdeen Bike and Outdoors is just a bicycle store — where new ones can be purchased and broken ones can be fixed.
And if that’s the case, then those people haven’t been inside the 9,000-square-feet space at 1101 South Main to see the vast array of outdoor apparel that meets visitors once they step through the door.
Owner Mike Casey says Aberdeen Bike is “not just about bikes or kayaks.” Including the clothing line was a way to encourage people to “get more active in their lifestyle.”
He says the store’s goal is “to get people out and get them to do more stuff outside,” whether it’s biking or kayaking or running or even walking.
Sure, Ben Caldwell, the service manager, performs miraculous bike repairs, and the staff offers knowledgeable and courteous service. And yes, there is every imaginable bike accessory you could think of inside the store.
But, encouraging the outdoor component of the store — with it’s the extensive collection of outdoor sportswear — is something that Casey hopes will lead to a more active community.
He says his store carries that largest selection of Northface and Columbia outerwear in the area.
Celebrating its 10th year in business, Casey says he and his staff of 10 employees can help people narrow down their choices in bikes, kayaks and outdoor clothing.
The store also offers free clinics and classes to get people started and schedules a number of hikes and runs.

Aberdeen Bike and Outdoors is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
