The Chelsea Area Senior Center recently hired Alison Marable as its senior services coordinator to bring a “Village Network Model” to the community.

This new program, Chelsea Community Senior Services (C2S2), will help seniors live safely and independently in their homes, according to information from the senior center.

Marable brings almost 10 years of social work experience to the job and has a wide range of experience and skills including marketing, freelance writing, and volunteering for various non-profits in the area. She will work closely with the center’s steering committee and other community partners to develop the infrastructure for the C2S2 program, according to the press release.

“In my experience as a hospital social worker, the largest barrier to living safely at home is access to essentials like transportation, small household repairs, and interaction with others,” Marable said.

“Aging in Community” is the ability to continue to live in one’s home safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level.  It means living in a familiar environment, and being able to participate in family and other community activities, according to the press release.

Ideally, people are empowered to age in place through a network of readily accessible services that meet their needs.

With this goal in mind, the Chelsea Senior Center, in partnership with Silver Maples of Chelsea and other invested community members, aim to launch the Chelsea Community Senior Services (C2S2) program this fall.

Initial funding for this program is being provided by a grant from the Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation as part of the 5-Healthy Towns initiative.
