Another Cavanaugh Lake Chili Cook-off in the record books

2013 Chili Cook-Off Winners and Judges

Tim Gosnick’s  “Going Postal Chili” was the winner of the 22nd Annual Cavanaugh Lake Chili Cook-off.

Six teams competed in this popular competition that’s part of the American Legion Post 31 Winter Carnival that took place Saturday afternoon, Feb. 2.

Larry Doll, chairman of the event, said 363 sample cups of chili were sold.

Second place went to Ashley Kingsbury’s “Not my Mama’s Chili” and third place went to Tina Sanderlin’s “Monster Chili,” which was also the People’s Choice Winner.

Judges for the event were Maier, Lima Township supervisor and American Legion Post 31 financial officer, Ouimet, former state representative, Brandon Johns – chef/owner Grange Kitchen & Bar, Phil Tolliver – chef/owner Smokehouse 52 and Ringe, chef Back to the Roots.

“Thank you to everyone who attended and purchased samples of the great chili made by all the cooks,” said Doll, a member of the Son’s of the American Legion, Squadron 31, which put on the carnival.
