April 16: M-52 roundabout meeting planned at Washington Street Education Center

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host public meeting to discuss the proposed roundabout at M-52 and Werkner Road  at the Washington Street Education Center with presentation at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.

MDOT will discuss the results of a recent road safety audit conducted at M-52 and Werkner Road. The formal presentations will be followed by a question and answer session with MDOT staff.

Officials will be present from 4-7 p.m. in Room 100.

As the result of a recent road safety audit, MDOT is recommending a roundabout be installed at M-52 and Werkner Road as a way to increase safety and improve traffic flow at this location, according to the press release.

At the meeting, residents will learn more about the proposal, including the timeline for construction, and be asked to comment on the proposed safety improvements at this intersection.

  1. What a terrible waste of money. A traffic signal with some additional warning lights and rumble strips on the approaches would work just as well for a fraction of the cost.

I would rather see the funds saved used for road repairs.
Unfortunately I will be unable to attend the meetings to express my concerns.

Terrible Idea and if you would like to see why, go to the roundy round in Ann Arbor at State and Ellsworth. It has the Highest accident rate in Michigan. If you’ve been amazed at how many drivers have trouble at a 4 way stop, this rolling demolition derby shouldn’t surprise you. Local drivers can get used to roundabouts but hwy 52 is traveled by more than locals. This intersection is already a dangerous one and would be better served with a traffic light. I can hardly wait to go nose to nose with a tandem gravel hauler. This is not a good idea and I am totally against it. Check out the attached article or Google Michigan roundabouts.

    Thank you….Woody
