(Chelsea Update would like to thank Lisa Vickers for the information in this story.)

An Alzheimer’s Association support group is a safe place to learn, offer and receive helpful tips, and meet others coping with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.

Participation in a support group can be an empowering experience, helping members feel better prepared to cope with their unique situation.

A support group will take place at Chelsea Retirement Community on Thursday, April 17 from 2-3:30 p.m. In fact, there is a group on the third Thursday of each month in the Crippen Building, 805 W. Middle St.

Support group members are typically the spouse, adult child, other family member or friend of someone with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, and they report feeling less alone, more able to confront their daily problems, and more hopeful about their future.
