April 9: Chelsea Kiwanis Club honors first responders

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

On April 9, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will honor the community’s first responders – Chelsea Police and Chelsea Area Fire Authority firefighters and Huron Valley Ambulance.

At Farmer’s Night last week, members heard from Jae Gerhart, Michigan State University Extension’s food systems coordinator for Washtenaw County.

The extension has many programs for residents, but she concentrates on those geared toward improving ways for farmers to market their produce. She builds a network of connections for large and small farms to work with wholesalers, industrial locations, farmers markets, etc.

Already, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and Dexter Schools are getting some food from local farmers.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
