Artists discuss their show at the River Gallery Saturday

Sue Moran and Ashley Lieber, the two artists behind the show “forest * field * farm” at the River Gallery, will speak about their art on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.

You can see an online version of Moran’s farm-inspired textiles and Lieber’s compositions of moss and lichens by clicking here.

Moran is an award-winning textile artist and educator at the College for Creative Studies, and was invited by the Legacy Land Conservancy to act as the on-site artist for the Community Farm of Ann Arbor 2011, according to information from River Gallery.

Daily walks in the habitat of the farm and surrounding areas resulted in a series of exquisite vegetable and field inspired textiles, the information states. She uses traditional hand-dyed, hand-stitched techniques including the ancient Japanese shibori method.

Lieber studied art at the University of Michigan and is exploring the use of horticulture as an art form and antidote to the stress, chaos and pollution of contemporary life, according to the information.

She exhibited framed works composed of mosses and lichens and a tableau’ garden installed indoors/outdoors featuring nutrient dense micro plants. In addition, she featured terrariums growing in found post-industrial objects.
