All fairs have great traditions and Chelsea Community Fair has many of them, but for all you ladies out there, Friday’s special Ladies Day is one that’s not to be missed.
Admission into the fairgrounds is $5 that morning and it’s free to join friends and family for a morning of fun.
Although it begins at 8 a.m., get there early — because the ladies begin lining up as early as 7 a.m. to be one of the first ones inside to grab one of the free goody bags, coffee and a muffin.
And, I got a sneak peak at what’s inside those goodie bags this year, and there are some very useful goodies to be had. You must be 18 years old or older to register for door prizes and goodie bags go to the first 300 who arrive.
There’s always entertainment. (Rumor has it that Elvis might be in the house.)
And this year, there will be a special fashion show with the fair queen contestants and volunteers as well as their families modeling some gorgeous clothing from Vogel’s and Foster’s. You will want to head from the fairgrounds to the downtown store — credit card in hand to purchase some of the outfits and/or accessories.
Ladies will also be eligible for door prizes from local businesses, which each year donate all kinds of wonderful items. To register, you’ll be asked to fill out a form with your name and address on it — veterans of Ladies’ Day bring an address label to stick on the slip of paper, which saves them time.
The group, which usually numbers in the hundreds, will be the first to learn who is named the Homemaker and Junior Homemaker of the 2013 Chelsea Fair as the winner and runner’s up are crowned as part of the about 2-hour event — a time to enjoy lots of laughter and friendships with family and friends.
