Long-time Children’s Parade Superintendent Sam Vogel said that in all the years he’s been organizing this popular event, it’s only been cancelled one time.
He said he’s been part of putting on this special Tuesday evening parade during the Chelsea Community Fair for about 30 years and started when he was in Kiwanis and was the High School Key Club adviser.
Don Cole, another Kiwanis member, said he’s been coming to the parade for 20 years and all of his grand kids have participated throughout the years.
“I think it’s fabulous,” he said of the event. “The smiles on the kid’s faces, it just makes this community special.”
Mitchell Dickinson, 10, said he decided to participate because he really likes riding his bike, while Kayle Zanger, 9, was participating in her first kiddie parade. She said she liked flowers and that’s why her bike was decorated with them.
Last year, Helen Chiumino-Knott and her sister, Lauren, were bumble bees, this year the two girls decided they wanted to be butterflies.
Here are a list and some photos from Tuesday’s Kiddie Parade.
