During the months of October and November, the Leadership Class of Beach Middle School raised funds to support a new barrier free playground for St. Louis Center.

The total was revealed on Tuesday Nov. 20, when students presented a “mock check” to St. Louis Center Public Relations Director Joseph Yekulis.

Teacher Kathryn McCalla began working with the class at the beginning of the year to identify a charity they’d like to work for, and they agreed on St. Louis Center.

The students held a car wash, a Middle School dance, and a Rock-A-Thon, and raised $1,713. 90.

The students who participated included: Jake Battaglia, Ben Brannon, Abby Burris, Nicholas Childress, Mary Coyl, Sara Dana, Mallory Downer, Spencer Gobba, Jared Hansen, Claire Kelly, Anna Knight, Olivia Leonard, Olivia Maldonado, Savanna Outhwaite, Connor Peterson, Alexa Quintana, Jordan Smith, Rebecca Stotler, and Anna Vanneste.

St. Louis Center is a residential care center for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities administered by the Servants of Charity Congregation. For more information about St. Louis Center, click here.
