The Chelsea Beach Middle School field hockey team won 2-0 defeating a well-coached Ottawa Hills team from the Toledo area on Wednesday night in the teams first game of the season.

The Bulldogs started off strong offensively with an aerial shot into the goal by Teresa Smith in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Lindsey Partyka increased Chelsea’s lead to 2-0 with a well-executed shot into the goal assisted by Naomi Ratliff.

Goalie Lily Spiess led an especially robust defensive effort by blocking shots on goal during five penalty corners in the second quarter. The Bulldogs consistently defended the circle throughout the game, with tenacious play by Caitlyn Ash, Abbie Nye, and Ava-Reese Hagen and Grace Kapolka.

The team thanks the McCollum family for making masks for the entire team and Beach Middle School Assistant Principal Matt Ceo for supporting the team and greeting spectators at the game. The Bulldogs play two away games next week at Dexter (Sept. 23) and Pinckney (Sept. 24).
