(Chelsea Update would like to thank Dan Rhodes and David Slusser for the information in this story.)

7th grade football loses to Tecumseh

The Beach Middle School 7th grade football team traveled to Tecumseh and lost 30-0.

After a slow start to the game, the Dogs picked it up in the second half and showed great improvement. The Bulldogs forced 3 turnovers, 2 fumble recoveries and an interception by Jake Corcoran.

On offense, EJ Milan and Buck Allen had several big passing completions from quarterbacks Caden Steele and Brady McKale. Luke Cavanaugh led the rushing attack with a big run in the 3rd quarter. Hunter Burk and Ben Fischer had several big tackles on defense.

The Dogs will host Jackson next week.

8th grade football loses 30-28 to Lincoln

The 8th Grade football team lost an exciting one to Lincoln, 30-28 Tuesday night.

The Dawgs had a sluggish start to the game, outside of Sam Borcherding‘s crushing hit on the opening kickoff, as the team was down 30-8 at halftime. The Bulldogs lone score of the first half was when Nate Christian connected with Jimmy Sciackitano for a 63-yard touchdown pass, and the two connected again for the 2-point conversion.

The Bulldogs regrouped at halftime and played a much improved and energized 2nd half. On the opening drive of the 2nd half Richard Montoye took an option pitch, cut back across the field, weaving his way in and out of Lincoln defenders, and scampered 64 yards for a touchdown. Christian ran in the 2-point conversion, making the score 30-16.

On the ensuing possession, Will McCalla forced a fumble that was recovered by Brody Thomas.

At the beginning of the 4th quarter, Christian connected with Sciackitano for another touchdown closing the gap to 30-22. On the next Lincoln drive, Borcherding forced a Lincoln fumble and recovered it himself. The Bulldogs were not able to capitalize on the turnover, but the Dawgs defense made another big stop, forcing the Railsplitters to turn the ball over on downs with just over 2 minutes to go.

The Bulldogs made one last drive, and got down to the Lincoln 31 yard line with time for one last play. Christian took the snap, rolled out to his right and launched a pass into the end zone with Sciackitano making the grab as time expired. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful due to a questionable call, and the Bulldogs lost 30-28.

The 2nd half was one of the best performances by a Chelsea 8th grade team, as the defense stepped up big, shutting out the Railsplitters for the half. McCalla, Montoye, and Borcherding led the defensive effort, but they weren’t the only ones making plays as there were many gang tackles.

The Bulldogs hope to build on this momentum next week when they play Jackson at home.
