Beach Middle School students were among the few in the state selected to bring cutting edge and innovative technology demonstrations from their classroom to lawmakers at the state Capitol Building.

“We are proud of the students who represented Beach and the Chelsea community in Lansing,” said Nick Angel, Beach Middle School principal.

“Our Robotics programs have really taken off in the last three years and I’m excited to see what is on the horizon for our students. The students and parent mentors continue to amaze me with their enthusiasm and passion,” he said.

Presented by the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL), and underwritten by AT&T, the 2018 Student Technology Showcase featured demonstrations from students representing 39 different schools.

The 18th annual AT&T/MACUL Student Technology Showcase took place Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the rotunda of the state Capitol Building.

“The Student Technology Showcase is now in its 18th year, and this year’s student presentations are among the most impressive in decades,” said Mark Smith, MACUL executive director in a press release. “This community has every right to be proud of these students.”

Students displayed a wide variety of technology projects that blended science, mathematics, social studies and language arts with the latest digital tools. Their work featured app development, artificial intelligence demonstrations, coding, robotics, web design, and many other technology demonstrations.

Governor Rick Snyder and State Rep. Sylvia Santana were recognized with “Excellence in Education” awards at the showcase for their commitment to connecting students with innovative technologies, and their dedication to improving the Michigan educational system.

MACUL is an organization dedicated to bringing educators from all levels together to share their knowledge and concerns regarding educational uses of computers and technology. For further information about the Showcase, visit www.macul.org  or call 517-882-1403.

AT&T works every day to connect Michigan families and job providers faster and better than ever before. AT&T is a proud, longstanding supporter of technology in the classroom, career training, mentorship and college readiness programs that prepare students for 21st century jobs.
