Five Beach Middle School distance runners competed at the Eastern Michigan indoor track meet on Sunday, Feb. 2 in the Elite Middle School 1600m, which showcases some of the best young runners from around the state.

Representing Chelsea were Connell Alford, Jackie Dell, Leo Swager, Trilian Krug, and Seren Angus.

Alford won the event with a time of 5:00.95 for the boys, while Dell ran a 5:15.25 placing fifth.

Swager was sixth in a time of 5:18.17 out of 13 total runners.

For the girls, Krug placed 14th out of 16 with a time of 6:08.84 and Angus was 16th with time of 6:34.96.

“The girls performed well considering they just came off of their swim season and have not been running consistently,” said coach Loren Thorburn.

“We are proud of groups’ efforts, performances and positive attitudes,” the coach said, adding, “The future looks bright for our distance crew.”
