Jacob and Henry Kothe were two of the “children of all ages” who made pinecone birdseed ornaments Saturday, Dec. 1 during Hometown Holiday.

Helped by Gigi Batsakis, owner of GiGi’s Flowers and Gifts at 103 N. Main St. the free community event was “back by popular demand.”

Batsakis has offered the craft activity to the community for about 15 years.

With her help, children write their name on a paper bag, then they slather a pinecone with peanut butter that’s already been tied with string.

The kids roll the pinecone in birdseed and it’s placed in a paper bag to take home.

The project is for all ages – kids and “kids at heart,” and the pinecone is ready for hanging outside a window or on a tree branch for birds to enjoy.

She said previously that the idea started with a former employee who worked in daycare.
