The Chelsea High School Boy’s Track and Field team scored another impressive victory Tuesday night, defeating perennial powerhouse Adrian, 99½ to 37½.

Chelsea High School Boy’s Head Track and Field Coach Eric Swager said the team “went into this meet expecting a battle,” calling Adrian traditionally a track powerhouse.

“We performed very well across the board,” Swager said, “and made the meet a blowout.”

He said that this is the most points the team has scored against Adrian and it “gives us the inside track toward a third consecutive SEC White title.”

He said the distance/mid-distance runners once again were outstanding, scoring 31 of a possible 32 points against a very solid squad.

“Many of our sprinters continue to improve, as do our field event performers,” Swager said.

Individual highlights include Michael Smith’s 43’8″ shot put heave to win; Austin Horn’s sub-10, 3200 run, and Shane McGrath’s personal record in the 300 hurdles, which now ranks 6th all-time in Chelsea history.

“There are too many other highlights to list them all, but I am really pleased with how these guys are holding each other accountable across the board,” he said

The coach also gave a shout out to all the track and field coaches as the squad moves into the season.

“I look forward to some more solid performances as the weather continues to improve,” he said.
