Bulldog boys golf finishes 5th at districts

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Head Golf Coach Joe Ewald for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Boys Golf Team finished fifth in district play at Binder Park Golf Course in Battle Creek on May 28.

There were 11 teams in the district and the top 6 teams move on to regional play, said Joe Ewald, head boys coach.

Marshall won the district with a score of 315.

“My best assessment of the field was that there were 3 teams that we should beat, and three teams that were very tough, and we were about dead even with the other four teams in the middle,” he said, adding, “If we could find a way to beat two of them we should move on.”

The Bulldogs finished fifth with a score of 350, just one shot off our best score of the year.

“We were only 8 shots out of 3rd place — that’s only two shots a man,” he said, adding, “For this team coming into the year with no real expectations, that was quite an accomplishment.”

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Sean Lyons with a lifetime best score of 81, Teddy Darr was next with an 87, JJ Duncan had an 89, followed by Joe Slusser with a 93.
