(Chelsea Update would like to thank Andrew Thomson for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea High School girls swim and dive team traveled to Dexter on Oct. 17 for an SEC White Division match-up.

The Bulldogs battled early, but eventually fell to the Dreadnaughts by a final score of 121-65.

The meet ran the Bulldogs overall record to 10-4 (4-2 SEC White).

“Dexter is one of the perennial powers not just in the SEC, but in the state.  They have strength and depth every season,” said head coach Andrew Thomson after the meet. “We tried to go through and figure out where they would put their strongest swimmers, and do the best we could to match up with them and go toe-to-toe. We started out on fire, but we just couldn’t sustain it through the entire meet.”

The 200 medley relay is what Thomson was referring to, with the team of Kauri Fields, Abby Robbins, Olivia Olk and Olivia Prodin posting its best time of the season at 1:55.91 and finishing first.

In the 200 freestyle, Bella Turner finished second with a time of 2:00.66, while freshman Riley Monahan placed fifth in 2:12:06.

The Bulldogs again matched up well in the 200 IM, with Olk finishing first in 2:20.67 and Robbins second with a 2:22.03.  Alexis Nelson was runner-up in the 50 freestyle with a final of 26.05 and Prodin touched fifth in 26.78.

The Chelsea divers faced some stiff competition as well, with Savannah Fisk posting a season-best 204.75 and earning fourth place. Melina Almhiemid was right behind her in fifth with 175.45 points.

Olk took care of business in the 100 butterfly, earning the top spot with a time of 1:03.46. Teammate Morgan DeYoe posted a fifth place finish in 1:14.09.

In the 100 freestyle, Turner posted the first place time of 54.69 and Prodin held on for the fifth spot in 58.85.  Monahan ended up third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:51.24, and Katie Leissner finished fifth with a 6:05.33.

In the 200 freestyle relay the team of Turner, Nelson, Olk and Rory Krause finished in the second spot with a time of 1:46.42.  The 100 backstroke saw Dexter’s depth show through, with Fields earning the fourth place finish for the Bulldogs, with a time of 1:07.99 and Hannah Harmes finishing fifth in 1:16.65.

Robbins won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.30 and Jessica Neff earned a fifth place finish in 1:20.77.  The meet finished with the 400 freestyle relay team of Turner, Monahan, Prodin and Nelson finishing third and posting a time of 4:00.27.

The Bulldogs will travel to Dundee for a non-conference meet before returning home to Cameron Pool to host Lincoln for senior night on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.
