CAFA planning open house for new fire station in September

At the Aug. 18 Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) board meeting, it was announced that an open house is in the planning process for CAFA’s newest fire house, which is located next to Lyndon Township Hall at 17751 North Territorial Road.

Although a firm date for the event has not been set for the open house, CAFA looks forward to showing everyone to Fire Station No. 3. Additional information about the event will be published when available.

The Lyndon Township fire station joins Fire Station No. 1 in downtown Chelsea at 200 West Middle St., and Station No. 2 in Lima Township at 17751 Jackson Road.

Fire Chief Rob Arbini said the event would follow CDC and other COVID safety guidelines and people would be allowed inside the new building in small groups.

He also told the board that he’s awaiting word on 2019 AFG grant applications for a new tanker, turn out gear and additional firefighting equipment. CAFA recently received new thermal imaging cameras and will be purchasing additional search and rescue equipment from a 2018 grant.

The board will next meet on Sept. 15 via zoom.
