As the month of May progresses, so do the choices of fresh vegetables and plants at the Wednesday Chelsea Farmers Market.

You’ll find lettuces, spinach, asparagus, and broccoli, along with a huge variety of plants and plant starts. Look for herbs, annual, and perennial plants along with hanging flower baskets.

There will be a wide choice of fresh baked goods including breads, cookies, and cakes.

You’ll also find locally made cheeses and fresh beef.

Pottery and jewelry are among the crafts for sale at the Wednesday market. Look for Lynn Eckerly and her Blue Rose Studio stand where she sells her homemade aprons, cookbooks, and photos that also come in the form of greeting cards.

Eckerly has her first novel for sale. She writes a newspaper column that circulates throughout Michigan called “The Recipe Exchange.”

The market is located in the Chelsea State Bank parking lot, located at 1010 S. Main St., near the corner of Old US-12 and M-52 and runs from 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

There is a new regional (Chelsea, Grass Lake, Manchester and Stockbridge) food assistance program to help get healthy market food on the tables of those in need. It’s aimed at folks who don’t quite meet SNAP criteria. Be sure to inquire at the market.
