Update: Ice fishing cancelled at 41st Annual Winter Carnival this weekend

(This story has been updated to include the judges for the chili cook-off on Saturday and the cancellation of the ice fishing event.)

The weather is turning really cold – just in time for this year’s 41st Annual Winter Carnival at American Legion Post 31 – which features both hot and cold activities.

The carnival begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1 and features a Euchre Tournament beginning at 7 p.m. The tournament is for those 18 years and older, and there’s a $5 fee to enter.

On Saturday, Feb. 2, breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to noon.

At 1 p.m. on Saturday, the annual chili cook-off, tasting and judging begins. A great time, bragging rights, tastings, trophies and cash are on the line.

Here is the list of distinguished judges from Larry Doll, the chairman of the cook-off.

*Tim Walberg – US House of Representatives, Michigan 7th District

*Mark Ouimet – Former Michigan State House of Representatives, 52nd District

*Brandon Johns – Chef/owner Grange Kitchen & Bar, Ann Arbor

*Phil Tolliver – Chef/owner Smokehouse 52, Chelsea

*Nick Ringe – Chef/owner Back to the Roots, Chelsea

Then from 8:30-11:30 p.m., there will be a live band called Star 69. So stop by and enjoy the music.

On Sunday, Feb. 3, breakfast is served from 7 a.m.-noon.

At 3 p.m., there’s a raffle drawing and the three day carnival comes to an end.
