Both beginning swimmers and experienced swimmers can look forward to the Chelsea Aquatic Club‘s spring season. It begins April 30 and will run until May 22. Practices start at 5:30 p.m.

There will be a chance for new swimmers to see how a swim team works. In addition, there will be developmental classes on stroke technique, and the USA program, which involves more intense yardage as well as stroke development.

Swimmers can be as young as getting ready to enter kindergarten and as old as preparing to be high school senior.

“CAC is designed to meet the needs of all swimmers,” said Jennifer Olk, the new CAC head coach, who has been coaching for the last seven years. “Swimming is a lifetime sport and the most important goal I have is to create an environment where children will grow to love the water as a place for exercise.”

She says that CAC is good for kids who just want to improve their abilities as well as for kids who want to prepare for their high school swim season.

Olk’s own children are on the team as is the daughter of Shannon Krug, media clerk at Chelsea High School.

“The great thing is the team not only attracts swimmers in Chelsea, but people come from Pinckney, Stockbridge, Dexter and Ann Arbor,” said Krug, adding, “I do know that people from other towns come to CAC because they love the coaching; they like the flexibility of the schedule, it is fun, and maybe most importantly, they like the friendships they have made (both the swimmers with other swimmers and the parents with parents).”

“Chelsea is in a great location and we are lucky to have a pool in our town,” said Olk. “Many children come from other towns because we are the closest facility. We are also able to attract children with our friendly environment and knowledgeable coaching staff.”

In the summer, CAC swimmers can participate in WISC, Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference, which is made up of 18 teams from the area. The WISC has dual meets on Saturdays in June and July and a championship at the end of July.
