Chelsea Area Fire Authority board meets new hires

Chelsea Area Fire Authority patch

The Chelsea Area Fire Authority Board was introduced to the two newest firefighters at its Dec. 17 board meeting.

Jeff Fall and Steve Walters began work Monday and will spend the next two weeks working different shifts before being placed in their permanent short rotation said Fire Chief Rob Arbini.

With these two hires, CAFA is now at full strength with 12 full-time firefighters.

Arbini told the board that the department will soon have new thermal imaging cameras through grant funding and he hopes to be able to include additional equipment purchases for a 10-percent cost match.

The CAFA restated Articles of Incorporation are back with the attorneys for final clarifications and work continues on lease agreements between CAFA and the City of Chelsea, Lima Township and Lyndon Township for the three fire houses located in the authority area.

The firefighters will be outside Polly’s on Saturday, Dec. 21 from noon until 8 p.m. ringing a bell for the Salvation Army red kettle drive and hosting a Stuff a Truck event for Faith in Action. The firefighters hope shoppers will purchase a few extra non-perishable items while inside and then donate them to the fundraiser.
