The Chelsea Area Senior Center is offering a three-week senior self-defense class beginning Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.

“The program is designed to assist seniors in personal safety, situational awareness and self-defense,” according to an overview of the program.

The fee is $5 per class and they will be taught by Michael Trester, owner of Commando Krav Maga Chelsea/Kitchi Tae Kwon Do.

There is both classroom instruction and physical instruction. Trester teaches classes from beginner to advanced in his Dexter Township facility.

The classes continue on Tuesdays, Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 and the cost is $15 for the three classes. If the class fees pose a hardship, there are scholarships available.

The first class is geared to all physical abilities, according to information about the classes and the physical requirements increase during the next two classes.

Trester, a law enforcement officer, “is well versed in tactics and teaches from the perspective of someone who has been there,” class information states.

Pre-registration is required by calling 475-9242 or by emailing [email protected].
