Chelsea Boys JV Basketball Now 13-1 on Season

By Rich Rezler

It appeared the Chelsea junior varsity boys basketball team had reached its zenith while beating division rivals Ypsilanti and Tecumseh by an average of 33 points.

Turns out, the Bulldogs had a little more to give.

Now 13-1 on the season, Chelsea continued to dominate fellow Southeastern Conference White Division foes with mercy-rule shortened victories at Pinckney and against visiting Adrian.

The MHSAA basketball mercy rule requires a running clock be enacted when a team reaches a 40-point advantage.

Against Pinckney, the running clock started when Chelsea took a 52-11 lead early in the third quarter on its way to a 55-22 victory. The Bulldogs did most of their damage in the second quarter, outscoring the Pirates 26-0 to take a 47-11 lead into halftime.

Beckett Boos scored 18 points, Nick Martin 12 points and Wyatt Matusik 11 points in Friday’s victory.

Buck Allen didn’t play against Pinckney, but he quickly made up for lost time by scoring 16 of his season-high 35 points in the first quarter of a 76-37 win over Adrian on Tuesday.

Boos added 30 points in a game that Chelsea led 42-12 at halftime and reached mercy-rule status when the Bulldogs took a 72-32 lead with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
