The Chelsea Boys Soccer team started its season with a 2-2 tie with Manchester Friday night, Aug. 18 at home.

The team features many new faces, returning only 6 varsity players from last year. Chelsea was hit with an early set back, when senior center back, Zach Barhite, left the game with an injury.

Manchester struck first with a long driving run through the Chelsea defense, slotting the ball into the corner. Chelsea responded when senior Josh Kowalski, beat two players in the box and was taken down from behind. A penalty kick was awarded and finished by senior Cullen Lindsey.

Chelsea came out strong in the second half, but again fell behind when Manchester played in a dangerous cross that was headed home. Again, Lindsey responded by breaking through the defense and calmly finishing to tie up the game.

Although, Chelsea pushed in the final minutes, the Manchester defense held up strong and maintained the stalemate. The team grew and gelled over the 80-minute game and they are excited to build on this performance as they start the season.

The team has two home matches this week on Tuesday v. Pinckney at 5:30 p.m. and on Thursday v. Ypsilanti 5:30 p.m.
