On Tuesday, Aug. 29, Chelsea marked its first tally in the win column against Adrian.
After an hour weather delay, they took the field with something to prove. Despite strong possession the from the Bulldogs, Adrian struck first. Chelsea responded with a goal from Junior Parker Shaw on a corner kick. Senior Cullen Lindsey put the corner right on the back post and Shaw headed it home.
The intensity of the game increased and both teams had quality chances to break the stalemate. Finally, Chris White played a long ball into Lindsey in the box. He was taken down and awarded a penalty.
Lindsey scored the PK and secured the first victory for the team.
The Chelsea JV also won, 5-0, in just one half of play.
On Thursday, Aug. 31, Chelsea hosted rivals Dexter.
The Bulldogs came out with a defensive strategy that held strong for the first part of the game with Senior Logan Malahak making several big saves. At halftime Dexter was up 1-0.
The Dreadnaughts came out aggressive in the second half and ended up putting in 3 more goals. Chelsea fought hard until the final whistle, getting some of its best chances toward the end of the game, but was unable to put the ball in the net. The game ended 4-0 and was a well-deserved victory for Dexter.
The JV team lost 5-1.
“Both games were important for our development as a team,” said coach Jordan Miller. “I was so proud of the boys for grinding out a victory on Tuesday and for their resolve to battle until the final whistle on Thursday. We will continue to build on these experiences as we head into the middle part of our season.”
