Chelsea Boys Track and Field Brings Home Medals from Larry Steeb Meet of Champions

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Eric Swager for the information in this story.)

Chelsea boys track and field competed at the Larry Steeb Meet of Champions in Dexter Tuesday and brought home numerous medals.

“We do enjoy this meet, although it is a very long affair,” said coach Eric Swager. “The best performers from the tri-county area and beyond come to compete against the best.”

He said the boys team brought home a good chunk of medals:2 throwers, 2 relays, a hurdler, and some distance types.

Will Barhite moved up Chelsea’s top 10 list of best 300 hurdlers in spite of wiping out near the finish.

Almost every guy distance runner had some sort of lifetime best, highlighted by Erik Reiber’s 4:27 placing in the open mile.

Our freshman milers Connell Alford and Jackie Dell went 1-2 in that event, (4:29 and 4:34) and both of them were under the old meet record. Connell became the fastest Chelsea freshman miler in school history.

“Overall, the attitude of this team remains positive and high – and I am looking forward to the performance of our seven representatives at the State Championships this Saturday in Zeeland,” Swager said.
