Chelsea boys track and field downs Lincoln and Dexter

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Eric Swager for the information in this story.)

On Tuesday, April 16, the Chelsea boys track and field team moved to 4-0 on the dual meet season with wins over both Lincoln and Dexter.

“With this young squad, I knew nothing would be easy, but a contest like this builds character,” said coach Eric Swager.

Both meets came down to the final two events, and a huge race in the 200.  Brennan Van Riper and Colton Trevino ran “like men possessed to eke out a couple crucial places in that event,” Swager said.

Throughout the day, though, Chelsea had a lot of guys step up, the coach said.

The distance runners were able to go 32-0 on Lincoln, and battle tough Dexter to a near draw.

The throwers scored 33 of a possible 36 points, led by Josiah Fitch, Ryan Scott, and Zach Sanborn.

Ben Yeasting won several hurdle events.

Many younger guys set lifetime bests.

“I do like the attitude of the squad, and as we continue to improve, I am curious as to how things will shake out for the SEC and Regionals,” Swager said.
