(Chelsea Update would like to thank Eric Swager, head boys track and field coach, for the information in this story.)
“We finished off a perfect SEC season by dominating the league meet, outscoring second place Lincoln by nearly 80 points,” said boys head track and field coach Eric Swager.
“The guys on this team come to compete, plain and simple — we had a bunch of guys score (top 6 places) that haven’t scored a lot in other meets,” he said, adding, “That is nice to see.”
League medals go to the top 3 finishers in each event, and the winning relay, so you can see the number of award winners on the sheet below.
Berkley Edwards, Shane McGrath, Zach Rabbitt, Austin Horn, and Michael Smith were our individual league champions this year, as well as the 3200 Relay.
The coach called it “a nice finish to the league season.”
Swager said the team has its biggest challenge yet at the state finals at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern on Saturday, June 1.
Pre-meet favorites are Williamston and Zeeland West and they will be tough, the coach said, “but with a perfect day we could be in contention for the title.”
