Chelsea City Council Chooses New Police Chief

Following two interviews and a public meet and greet session, current Waterford Deputy Chief Kevin Kazyak was unanimously selected with contingencies as the new Chelsea Police chief Wednesday night by the City Council in an open public meeting that was also available to residents via Zoom.

The offer is contingent on him first passing a background check, psychological exam, drug test and then agreeing to a contract.

According to his interview, Kazyak has a 28-year history in law enforcement, his last five as deputy chief in Waterford, where there are 38 police officers. Among his credentials are: he has taught at Oakland Community College in the Police Academy, served as a traffic accident investigator and oversaw recruitment in the department. He also has experience working with other public safety agencies and has been involved in the department’s community engagement programs.

You can listen to his initial interview and his final interview on the city’s website.

Additional information will be provided in the future.
