Chelsea City Council OK’s Special Use for Collins at the Clocktower

(Publisher’s note: This is another of a series of stories from the July 18 Chelsea City Council meeting.)

The owner of Collins at the Clocktower, was given unanimous approval for a special use from the Chelsea City Council at its July 18 regular meeting.

The applicant is proposing a new location for wedding ceremonies at 310 N. Main St., Suite 300, on the top floor of the Clocktower building to expand the existing business which is located at 120 W. Main St. and known as Collins Off Main.

The applicant originally planned to expand her business to the old Vogel’s and Foster’s location on Main Street but removed itself from that location due to “some logistical issues,” according to the special use permit explanation.

With parking for these events limited, the applicant plans to have guests park in the city municipal lot next to the fire station on West Middle Street.

Banquet Halls are permitted as a special use in the clocktower location and provide a trolley to move guests from the parking area to the Clocktower location.

The city’s planning commission previously approved the request.

Council Member Charles Wiseley recused himself from the vote due to employment association with the ownership of the property as he has with previous City Council votes that involve the Clocktower Complex and surrounding property.
