Chelsea City Updates: Cause of power outage, Sibley Road

Chelsea City Manager John Hanifan wrote in his weekly report that the July 26 power failure in the city was caused by a failed regulator at the Garfield Substation.

This city substation provides power to the middle section of Chelsea, including the downtown.

The electric department distributed the electrical load from the Garfield substation to two other substations and power was restored to a majority of customers by 8 p.m. and all power was restored by 11 p.m.

The Sibley Road paving project was expected to be completed by the end of Wednesday, July 28, and pavement makings and striping should be done by the end of the week. It’s expected that the project should be completed a week ahead of schedule.

The Bobcat team finalized its onsite work this week and the report should be completed within the next 60 days.
